Eastern Gateway Community College, which has struggled financially over the last year, is set to begin dissolving in June unless it receives enough funding. EGCC trustees decided at a Wednesday meeting that unless the community college is able to obtain “sufficient” funding by May 31, it would begin the process of folding on June 30. Bluffton University will merge with the University of Findlay by fall 2025, pending approval from state agencies and their shared accreditor, the Higher Learning Commission. Pittsburgh Technical College has been placed on probation and is at risk of losing its accreditation, the latest blow to the 75-year-old North Fayette institution that has been fighting controversy over concerns about its financial stability and leadership. PTC’s accreditor, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, said on its website that the college has provided “insufficient evidence” of compliance with standards related to ethics, finances and governance.

Downs started by giving a summary of fiscal year 2024 (FY2024) which will end June 30. Downs said the college went into the 2023–24 academic year with a deficit of $12.5M but forecasts that by the end of FY24, the deficit will be $7.6M. A deficit refers to a situation where the college’s total expenses are greater than its total revenue. “Right now we are trending slightly favorable to [the $12.5M deficit],” Downs said.

Apple is looking to team up with Google for a mega-deal to leverage the Gemini AI model for features on iPhone, Bloomberg reported. This will put Google in a commanding position as the company already has a deal with Apple as the preferred search engine provider on iPhones for the Safari browser. The publication cited people familiar with the matter saying that Apple is looking to license Google’s AI tech to introduce AI-powered features with iOS updates later this year.

While most colleges are producing graduates who go on to earn incomes higher than your typical high school graduate, a sizable portion of them are not, according to a new report from the HEA Group. According to the report, the estimated earnings outcome of a typical high school graduate is $32,000 a year. But the number of U.S colleges whose students earn more than that is less than three-quarters (74% or 2,865) – 1,709 schools produced students who earn more than $10,000 above this benchmark.
