Meet Kyler VanHook: Bible Study & Sabbath School Coordinator

Junior theology major Kyler VanHook has been the Bible study and sabbath school coordinator for PUC’s Campus Ministries team for two years. He became interested in joining this team after noticing how much he wanted to help with vespers and programs like Week of Prayer. After Kyler’s first year assisting, he was contacted about officially joining the team the summer between his freshman and sophomore year- and ever since then, it has been an amazing time!

What does being a part of this team mean to you?

To me, being part of the team means that I am a member of many in the campus spiritual life body. God has given me my specialties and talents, and I believe that my job is to use what God has given to me in ways that will truly give Him all of the credit and to encourage my fellow team members to do the same with their gifts.

What resources are there for students to strengthen their spiritual life?

Well, first of all, there are always worship opportunities, such as Vespers, Community, Dorm Worship, Bible Studies, and the Sabbath School and Church service. I highly recommend all of these as opportunities for people to go check out! Additionally, our PUC chaplain is always eager to meet new people who are interested in the spiritual aspects of campus life. And there are all of the campus ministries team members who are eager to do the same!

From your perspective, what is spiritual life at PUC like?

From my perspective, I would say that the spiritual life on campus has been progressing year after year. However, I really do believe that several areas could be greatly improved upon. As much of the great experiences we have on campus, I see many opportunities for us to dig even deeper into the word of God and truly strive every day to walk with God- in all areas of life. But the beautiful thing is that I believe God wants to use our campus ministries team, and the staff, the whole student body to accomplish this very thing!

What made you decide to attend PUC?

What made me want to come to PUC was the fact that my mother, father, and grandparents all attended here, so I heard many wonderful stories about campus. It is also the most beautiful college campus I have ever been on and heard of- so intermingled with nature that I would say we have some of the most positive benefits for students on campus.

What is your favorite thing about being a part of the Pioneers family?

Probably, for a similar reason that I previously stated. I like how everyone here has their own strengths and weaknesses, and I love to see students helping each other out, building off of each other. A truly powerful team can look at each individual member of the team, regardless of their opinion of them as an individual, and see that God has a plan for them as much as He has a plan for everyone else. To me, that’s what being a part of the Pioneer family means.
