Q&A with Mika Palitang: Worship Coordinator for Campus Ministries

Junior Mika Palitang has helped with PUC’s campus ministries praise team since her freshman year. With this year being her first time as an official worship coordinator,  she works with the SA religious vice president, student chaplains, and the school chaplain to help plan and coordinate worship services- particularly the praise music portion of vespers, church, week of prayer, and other campus events. Mika also helps students get involved with campus ministries so they can use their God-given talents for His purpose.

What motivated you to be a part of campus ministries?

After being given various leadership roles during my freshman and sophomore years, I wanted to be able to serve in a bigger capacity and felt like my skill set was best suited to being a worship coordinator. As I deepened my relationship with God, the desire to use the talents He’s given me to further His ministry became more eminent, so when given the opportunity to join the team, I didn’t hesitate.

What goals do you hope to accomplish with your team and campus?

So far, our team has been working really well together, and, to reference this year’s theme, we are definitely “all in”. I hope the team maintains the drive and vision throughout the school year, and that our personal lives would be reflection of the image we’re trying to create and the God we serve. Campus-wise, I hope to get more people involved, both in leading out and participating in events and so foster a more community feel. I would also like to be able to connect with more people, and see spiritual growth on campus.

What should the PUC community know about the campus ministries team?

The PUC students and community should know that the campus ministries team is always looking to improve, so if you have criticisms, tips, or suggestions, please let us know! I can confidently say that each of our members is genuinely committed to helping bring about a positive spiritual life experience to campus. We are always looking to improve, so any feedback is very welcome.

What does being a part of this team mean to you?

As a leader on campus, I think it is important to live out and reflect the principles we profess. Being a part of this team pushes me to deepen my relationship with God and, in inviting the Holy Spirit into my heart, live a life that reflects the calling given to all followers of Christ.

What makes spiritual life at PUC special?

One of the awesome things I first noticed about PUC is that its students and faculty are genuinely kind people. Over the years that I’ve been here, one of the best changes I’ve witnessed is the increasing number of students attending church and Sabbath school, and our campus is feeling more and more spiritually alive. While I can’t compare it to other colleges, I can say that PUC is special because of its people and the Holy Spirit’s presence on campus.

What made you decide to attend PUC?

PUC provides the education I need to apply for graduate school and pursue my career, and was the best financial option out of all the schools I was considering. Another reason I chose PUC is because it’s close to home for me, but perhaps one of the most important reasons is because when I toured the campus, it felt like a place that I wanted to attend, as its atmosphere was pretty laid-back and friendly.

What is your favorite thing about being a part of the Pioneers family?

My favorite part about being part of the Pioneers family is the great friends that I’ve made. There are some awesome people here that I feel very blessed to have met, and they have pushed me to be better both academically and spiritually. The staff and faculty are also incredibly kind and genuine- making my educational experience very positive.
