The University of Wisconsin System’s top leader warned there may be more campus closures and increased tuition rates if the Legislature moves forward with proposed budget cuts. Funding for the public university system has become a sticking point between Democratic Gov. Tony Evers and the Republican-controlled Legislature, threatening to paralyze the entire budget process. The top Republican lawmaker has focused the fight on campus diversity offices, which he believes teach students to focus too much on race.
