Graduate Color and Materials Design Students Selected As Semi-Finalists In Biodesign Sprint Challenge

February 20, 2023

The Biodesign x Mars Wrigley Challenge asked students and professionals to envision and create food and agricultural products and processes that help create a future where everyone can thrive. Students from the CCS Color & Materials Design program came up with an organic, responsibly and locally sourced spice blend tile that minimizes packaging waste while creating a culturally connective and healthier experience for the consumer. The concept by Shaye Albert, Sarah Craven and Sophia Philo, “Spice Bond,” was selected as a semi-finalist.

The Biodesign Sprint Challenge is a product of the Biodesign Challenge, a project that has been running for six years and combines art, design and biotechnology to find solutions. Over the years, CCS has participated in past Biodesign Challenge competitions, including “The Blot Project,” “Re-Form: Reformation of Thermoforming Materials,” “Webtopia,” and “Zebra Glass.”

Prompts developed for the Biodesign Sprint Challenge call for practical ideas that can be turned into commercial reality. The challenge invites students, scientists, engineers, artists, designers and hobbyists to join in on the challenge.
