Granada: An Absolute Must-See

If you’re embarking on a semester abroad in Valencia, Spain, with ISA, don’t miss out on joining this incredible excursion! Before my experience, I had heard glowing reviews from past students about the city, yet I remained curious as to what made Granada so special.

Our journey kicked off with a scenic seven-hour bus ride, which, surprisingly, became one of the highlights of the trip. One of the many amazing things about Spain is its breathtaking landscapes. As we traversed verdant mountains, arid canyons, and, finally, majestic snow-capped peaks, I found solace in my favorite music, soaking in the views.

Once we got to the city, we checked into our ISA hotel, centrally located for convenience and comfort. Our first activity was walking to the Mirador de San Nicolas viewpoint. On the walk up, we were all collectively in awe of the Moorish influence on the city and its unique beauty. Once we reached the vista, that beauty was immediately enhanced. The panoramic view of the Alhambra nestled amidst imposing mountains truly took our breath away. Witnessing the sun setting over this awe-inspiring landscape with the eighth wonder of the world before our eyes was an unforgettable moment that set the tone for the rest of the trip. The feeling was so surreal that it was hard to describe with words.

In our free time, my friends and I indulged in Granada’s famed tapas and drinks, reveling in the vibrant culinary scene. But the true magic awaited us the next day with a tour of the Alhambra. As we stepped into this architectural marvel, it was as though we had been transported back in time to an era of opulence and grandeur.

The intricate carvings, mesmerizing tile work, and tranquil gardens were a feast for the senses, each corner of the palace exuding history and artistry. Our guide regaled us with tales of sultans and emperors, painting a vivid picture of the palace’s storied past.

Yet, the cultural immersion didn’t end there. That evening, we were treated to a mesmerizing Flamenco show in traditional gypsy caves, a quintessential Andalusian experience. The intimate setting, coupled with the raw emotion and skill of the performers, left us spellbound. With every stomp of the foot and strum of the guitar, we were transported to a world where passion and expression reign supreme. It was a night of music, dance, and storytelling, a celebration of the rich cultural heritage that defines Granada.

Immersed in the cultural richness of the experience, I felt a deep connection to the heritage and spirit of Granada. It is truly unmatched. Everything on this trip was perfect and has quickly become my favorite destination in Spain. If you get the chance to go on this trip with ISA, please take it. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
