Faces of PUC: Natalie Nakanishi

Natalie Nakanishi is a sophomore psychology and business student from Susanville, CA. She decided to attend PUC for multiple reasons: it was close to home, her sister was here, and her horses could board on campus. Those were the big reasons Natalie decided to come to PUC. However, meeting the teachers and staff made PUC feel like a place she wanted to be, with Dr. Rachel Davis being a big part of her wanting to come to this school. Dr. Davis was welcoming and made Natalie feel right at home. The spiritual life at PUC also drew her into committing to PUC.

What made you choose your major?

I chose my major because I run my own horse and dog training business. I knew a business major would be very helpful in running a successful business in the future. I chose psychology as I wanted to incorporate equine therapy into my program. However, while I want to continue my business, I have decided to go to law school and hope to do family law or become a district attorney. If I don’t go that route, I want to get a master’s in school counseling.

What do you like the most about your program?

One thing I like most about my program is having Professor Fisher as a teacher. He makes class enjoyable, and I learn so much from his classes. He is a great professor, and PUC is lucky to have him.

What is your favorite thing about being a part of the Pioneers family?

There are many things I love about PUC. Being able to go to school on such a beautiful campus is a true blessing. As well as having access to hiking trails behind the school is something I love too.

My favorite thing about being a part of the Pioneers family is being around amazing people. The professors are great. They truly are here for the students and want you to succeed.

The music department is phenomenal too. Not only that, but student life does an incredible job of hosting events that many students enjoy. The people at this campus make you feel that you truly belong. The spiritual aspects that this campus has is truly amazing. I love being able to worship with incredible people and am thankful to be a part of such a good community.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

If I could travel anywhere, it would be to Alaska. I want to see the Northern Lights and explore the nature they have out there.

What is something you’re passionate about?

I am passionate about playing music, sports, and being out in nature. I am also very passionate about horses. I love riding, training, and teaching. It is very fulfilling to me, and I enjoy it. I am very blessed and thankful I can board my horses on campus.

Do you have a favorite restaurant in the Napa Valley?

My favorite restaurant in Napa Valley would be Gotts down in St. Helena. Their food is good, and I have good memories of eating there with friends.

How would you describe your perfect weekend at PUC?

My perfect weekend at PUC is surfing with friends, riding my horse in our beautiful Back 40 and the arena, hiking around Angwin, and going fishing at Lake Berryessa.
