Announcing the 2024 Roompact Bulletin Board Contest Winners!

Roompact’s bulletin board competition is now closed and we’re ready to announce the winners. We received 131 entires (!), so picking ten was incredibly difficult. Some boards did an excellent job at educating residents, while others were just beautiful! We tried to select a diverse group of winners that reflected the diversity of the submissions themselves.

Thank you to all who entered! Your ideas are now a resource for future RAs to use for inspiration.

Our Top Ten Winners

In no particular order…

Gianna

The College of New Jersey

Kirby is a character from the Kirby video game franchise centering around the character where his character is notorious for eating objects that he can use as superpowers. The theme for this board centers around emotional wellness practices, so each food item has a description for what emotional wellness is, what residents can do to practice emotional wellness, and positive affirmations.

Olivia

Vanderbilt University

“This design is based on an adaptation of the game “Candyland” for my freshmen residents at Vanderbilt, hence ‘Vandy-land.'”

Natalie

University of Texas at Austin

“The bulletin board follows my door dec and flyer theme of dinosaurs. The topic this month was to teach residents about self-care. I included the definition of self-care, types of self-care, how to practice self-care, why it is important to prioritize self-care, how to make a self care plan, and handouts for residents to take to help organize their self-care plan.”

Thea-Rose

Indiana University

“My bulletin board was “The Hunger Games” themed and I put it up after the prequel movie came out in theaters.

  • Each of the text boxes explain different aspects of the dystopian world of “The Hunger Games” and how they relate to our society.
  • There are 12 of them for the 12 districts in the books. In addition the design of the text “circles” comes from the original movie.
  • The grey design in the background comes from the cover of the first book.
  • The border is a scene in the woods because of its symbolic significance to the main character.
  • Lastly I added the 10 most popular characters so my residents would be drawn to look at the board.”

Imani

Indiana University

“Featured you will see that my BB is 3D, reflecting real materials as if one was really packing clothes, toiletries and their green book.

The theme of this BB is to showcase what traveling in the 50s and 60s were like for Black Americans in America. I wanted to show residents how the “Green Book” was an essential tool when packing for a road trip, especially down south, to make sure that we were safe and could have access to places and resources such as (motels, gas stations, restaurants, mechanics, salons, bathrooms, etc) without the fear of being harmed. It also explores real life experiences and explains the importance of why packing other essential tools like a school box lunch, blankets and pillows, along with the green book is necessary.

The Learning Outcome: Residents will be able to recognize what the Green Book looks like, and what it means/ how it was used as a tool in the 50s and 60s. They will also learn the major difference between traveling as a White American vs a Black American.”

Anne

University of Oklahoma, Headington Hall

Christian

Texas A&M University Commerce

“At my residence hall we were tasked with making a board about community guidelines our residents were having issues with following. I decided to list them out in the middle of the sun and have my residents write their names on slips of paper as a sort of sign- off that they agree to abide by them. It is also a way to incorporate them on the board making their strips of paper a part of the sun.”

Kiara

Texas A&M University Commerce

“The board that I did was during October, the theme was to reference back to the Walking Dead show. I included posters with information about events about our school such as the football schedule and any organizations people might want to join.”

Areli

Indiana State University

“Welcome to my Monsters Inc-themed bulletin board! This board is all about empowering residents to shape their learning journey in a space that feels just right for them. Each door represents a different organization or club the residents on my floor are involved in and others they can join! It’s a bulletin board where my residents can start to seek connections with others on the floor and discover what other groups people are involved in because ‘Getting Involved Shouldn’t be Scary.'”

Alana

Wichita State University

“As a resident assistant of an engineering living learning community, it was important to me to create a board for Women’s History Month. My board provides information about specific influential women in STEM whose accomplishments were attributed to their male colleagues or dismissed altogether to showcase the importance of diversity in STEM and the struggle that those people went through. I used 3D elements like the origami DNA helix on the sides and the beakers made out of recycled plastic bottles to make the board visually exciting while still being educational.”
