Dr. Katharine Shepherd Appointed Dean of University of Vermont College of Education and Social Services

Shepherd is currently the Levitt Family Green and Gold Professor of Education. She also served as interim dean of the education college since July 2021. Having been at UVM for 36 years, she also held roles such as special education program coordinator, vice chair of the Department of Education, interim associate dean for academic affairs and research, and associate dean for academic affairs.

Shepherd’s scholarly work focuses on educational leadership, family-professional partnerships, collaborative teaming, and implementation of inclusive policies and practices.

She has received multiple awards, including the President’s Distinguished University Citizenship and Service Award, the Higher Education Consortium for Special Education (HECSE) Leadership and Service Award, and the Kroepsch-Maurice Excellence in Teaching Award.

Shepherd holds an Ed.D. in educational leadership and policy studies and an M.Ed. in elementary and special education from UVM.
