Three students at James Madison University, in Virginia, were killed when their car veered off a road in West Virginia and struck a tree last week, The Washington Post reported.

Two other students suffered injuries and were hospitalized.

All of the students involved were 19.

“The loss our community has felt today is unthinkable,” President Jonathan Alger and other university officials said in a statement Friday. “We share our sincere condolences to our university community as a whole, but specifically to the families, friends and others with close connections to the students we’ve lost.”
