Meet returning College Possible AmeriCorps service member McKenzie

Whether students are enrolled in high school or college, classes have begun, and College Possible AmeriCorps coaches around the United States are busy forming new relationships and learning about students’ academic goals. At College Possible Minnesota, we are lucky to welcome back nine returning coaches and we’re grateful they have chosen to dedicate another year to supporting students.

Last month we featured returning coach Linda Yang, and are delighted to introduce you to another amazing returning coach: McKenzie Meyer. College Possible Minnesota is excited to work with its newest group of coaches, and we’re full of gratitude for the work they do to advance educational equity.

Meet McKenzie Meyer, a tech-connected college coach working with students to ensure they feel supported throughout their entire college experience. She attended St. Catherine University for undergraduate school and grew up in Andover, Minnesota. This year, McKenzie is excited to continue building on the skills she developed last year. Here’s what she had to say about why she renewed her service with College Possible.

Why did you renew your AmeriCorps term of service as a College Possible coach?
I decided to return for another year as an AmeriCorps coach because I really enjoyed my working environment and my role as a coach last year.

What’s your favorite memory from last year?
My favorite memory last year was doing an escape room for team bonding with my coaching team.

What are you most looking forward to this year?
I am most looking forward to growing in my role as a coach, and hopefully developing some better work-life balance skills. Mine were not the best last year and I got a little burnt out.

What’s the best thing you did this summer?
The best thing I did this summer was visit Duluth with my family.

Do you have a favorite book, band, or tv show?
My favorite musical artist is Taylor Swift — I’m a BIG Swiftie.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
When I’m not working, I like to volunteer or try out various forms of self-care — baking is my staple, but I’ve tried embroidery and yoga recently and enjoy both.
