Welcome to the 2022 fall semester from VCU Student Affairs
Dear VCU Students,
Welcome to VCU for the fall 2022 semester! We are so happy you are part of our VCU Ramily. Below are some points of possible interest and resources related to well-being, success in the classroom, opportunities for involvement and the safety of our VCU community.
Well-being and mental health
New this year, VCU students have access to free virtual care services through TimelyCare. Students can get the mental health support you need wherever you are, whenever you need it. Students can utilize TalkNow visits, scheduled counseling appointments and health coaching.
Those services are in addition to the comprehensive clinical services, advocacy, recovery support, outreach, and professional training provided by University Counseling Services.
Throughout the semester please visit you.vcu.edu to create a profile and explore customized, multimedia content designed to support your specific well-being needs. All VCU students are also able to access the Mental Well-being course by logging in with their VCU credentials.
AlcoholEdu is required for all new to VCU first-year and transfer students to complete during New Student Orientation. If you haven’t already, please login to AlcoholEdu using your VCU credentials and complete the program before Friday, 9/2.
Classroom success
As learning continues with the start of the semester, I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the pass/fail grade option for undergraduate students, VCU’s attendance policy, and key dates on the academic calendar, including the final exam schedule.
Opportunities for students
There are many great opportunities to get involved this semester. Some include serving on the Student Affairs Student Wellness Advisory Committee, the Vice President for Student Affairs’ Advisory Council, attending Weeks of Welcome events, utilizing RamsConnect, becoming a member of the Student Government Association or VCU Votes Advisory Council and by visiting our offices.
As you look to get involved on campus, I encourage you to review the Registered Student Organization (RSO) Conduct Report and to familiarize yourself with Hazing Prevention and Discipline policy.
Contributing positively to the university and greater Richmond community is an integral part of being a VCU Ram. As members of our VCU and Richmond community, it is important to practice civility and to be considerate of those living around you.
Safety
VCU Police encourage students to be aware of their surroundings at all times and to report any suspicious behavior immediately. All members of the VCU community are encouraged to become familiar with the Violence Prevention and Threat Assessment and Management policy. VCU Police reminds students that officers are available to help all members of the VCU community; if you need assistance, please call (804) VCU-1234 / (804) 828-1234 to reach VCUPD directly at any time, day or night. Students can also download the free LiveSafe app.
