The RAE was replaced in 2014 by the Research Excellence Framework (REF). It was last held in 2021 with Research England in charge instead of HEFCE. Project funding was to continue to be sought in the form of grants, including those from Research Councils which were also moved within UKRI. It found that views were mixed.
