This summer, I jumped at any chance to drive the hour and ten minutes to Holland from my hometown. I love Holland. I love the glistening lake, the picturesque downtown, and of course the campus nestled nearby. Here are five of my favorite things about this place I’m blessed to call home: 1.

Right away I was playing games, going on scavenger hunts and meeting as many people as possible. We would all participate in dorm events put on by Residential Life Staff (our RA’s and RD) such as exploring downtown Holland, late-night donut runs and decorating Christmas cookies. One of my favorite memories was around Halloween.

There’s no particular order, but you should do all of these things at least once during your fall semesters as a Hope student. Go to Live Mannequin Night in downtown Holland. Whether you get involved in Song, Play, Oration, or Morale you should do it at least once. It’ll be fun. Participate in Nykerk.

The world just feels a little different: students and teachers everywhere long for Christmas break, the ground almost seems to cry out to be covered in a blanket of snow, and the church around the world awaits the birth of Christ. Did you know they play Christmas movies basically all day, not just in the evenings? I really enjoyed it!
