The university system is asking for a total of $199.4 million over the biennium which would be essentially the same state support it received in the 2010-2011 biennium, before state support was cut in half for the 2012-2013 biennium. Cathy Provencher, the Chief Administrative Officer for the university system, said $50 million in operating costs were cut between fiscal year 2019 and 2022 to try to “right size” the system to the number of students.

CUNY has ordered its 25 colleges to cut their budgets and implement a hiring freeze, the school confirmed via email Saturday morning. Most campuses will have to cut their programming and activity expenses by approximately 5% to 6% in fiscal year 2024, according to a memo sent to deans and presidents earlier this month that was provided to NY1.
