Ultra-processed foods are not more appealing, study finds

Results challenge assumption we eat highly processed foods because they are more desirable, says study’s author Ultra-processed foods are viewed as no more appealing than less processed foods, research has found. A University of Bristol study compared the taste perception of different food types to test the theory that calories and level of processing are key factors influencing how much we like and desire food.

Shapiro Signs Bill Providing Flat Funding for Penn State, Other State-Related Universities - Geoff Rushton, State College

More than four months after the budget deadline, the Pennsylvania House and Senate on Wednesday approved level funding for Penn State and two of the commonwealth’s three other state-related universities. The bill was signed by Gov. Josh Shapiro on Thursday, releasing more than $640 million in higher education appropriations. Penn State will receive a general appropriation of $242.1 million, unchanged from 2022-23 in general support, funds it uses to discount tuition for in-state students.

Iowa university board votes to roll back DEI initiatives - Laura Spitalniak, Higher Ed Dive

The Iowa Board of Regents approved recommendations Thursday to eliminate all campuswide diversity, equity and inclusion efforts that are not required for universities to stay compliant with the law or accreditation standards. Last June, Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a law directing the board to review DEI efforts at Iowa’s public universities.
