The San Mateo Community College District is pausing and restarting its search for a new chancellor after one of the candidates issued a public statement about withdrawing from the process, The Almanac reported.
The district’s Board of Trustees selected Melissa Moreno, president of Skyline College, to serve as interim chancellor in the meantime.
District leaders announced three finalists for the position in November. After the selection process was over, one candidate was asked to come to campus for a site visit to “complete confirmatory diligence prior to negotiating a formal offer,” Lisa Petrides, president of the Board of Trustees, said in a statement.
“The candidate declined to make such arrangements, withdrew from the process, and issued a public statement regarding their decision,” she said. “Unfortunately, the confidentiality of the search process was compromised when this candidate issued a press release regarding their decision to withdraw. Shortly following this public statement, the two other finalists forwarded by the selection committee subsequently withdrew their candidacies from consideration.”
She did not name the candidate, but West Valley–Mission Community College District issued a press release in January saying its chancellor, Bradley Davis, declined an offer from San Mateo and would remain in his position.
“Having closely examined this opportunity, I quickly discovered that the best fit for my leadership was to remain in my current role,” Davis said in the release.
