This summer, I jumped at any chance to drive the hour and ten minutes to Holland from my hometown. I love Holland. Downtown Holland so perfectly matches the things I always envied about the small town Stars Hollow in the show. trip downtown in winter trip downtown in summer 2. One of my biggest concerns when moving to the United States for college had to do with living in Holland, Michigan. I have actually, in moments when I have left Holland for breaks, found myself looking forward to the distinct pace it provides. In larger cities or college towns, it is a bit too easy to disappear into anonymity.

As an international student, it is hard to believe that a city kid like me would be going to a small town of Holland, Michigan, for college. The Philippines is 12 hours ahead of Holland, which meant that all of my classes were in the middle of the night during the pandemic. I felt like a part of me was rejuvenated.

That meant a lot to me, and realizing that Hope’s professors wanted these kinds of relationships with their students because the class sizes were at a max of 40 students helped me realize that college size really mattered to me. A gorgeous city near Lake Michigan.

Last week, I saw some students were throwing a football in the Pine Grove. Such is life in Holland, Michigan. For those out of state who may be unfamiliar, Michigan gets the best of every type of weather, multiple times a year. Holland is experiencing a genuine blizzard. Love Michigan. It was 20 degrees out.
